Our Programs for teens (15-18 years old)

We have a learning approach for high school students that allows them to be immersed in an English speaking environment and to experience the vitality of New York City.

We give them tools to flourish in their studies.

Our students take away skills that benefit them in their career and throughout their life.

Our challenging academic courses are designed to take students to the next level!

Members of the ALCNY team come from New York City. Our professors provide a lively, dynamic environment where students will develop confidence and comfortability speaking and writing in English.   The ALCNY method is effective. It is focused on two goals :  1) Develop language competency. 2) Acquire the soft skills which are at the heart of American education (self confidence, working together, communication, creativity, problem solving...)  If your goal is to work in an English speaking company or study abroad, we will get you ready!

Digital Media

Cinematography & Behind the Scenes Techniques

Cinematography & Behind the Scenes Techniques

In this workshop students explore a foundational element of digital media art; the making of an image with light. Students will explore and push the boundaries of their own composition through it’s translation to large scale light projection and through the composite images they will make with the work of their peers. This will invite reflection on color, texture, form, and scale as well as representation and collective identity.

Key questions; How are we defining digital media? Is it something we can use and have control over? What is a digital Image? Where do we see them and who is represented?

Cinematography & Behind the Scenes Techniques

Cinematography & Behind the Scenes Techniques

Cinematography & Behind the Scenes Techniques

In our incredibly image rich society, this work shop investigates image creation through light and shadow, individual identity, and shared identity. Also, how we can individually and collectively contribute to image production and representation. This project combines tactile media and digital video to create a composite image of the children’s collective identity through time. The integration of the moving image (the video of the children that will be digitally projected) with the static image (the collage transparency compositions on the overhead projector) will introduce two different ways of controlling and anticipating a composite image. This project will be heavily participatory and collaborative.

We will use the digital video camera to shoot scenes of the students acting out scenes and characters that belong in their individual or layered transparency compositions. Then using the digital projector and the overhead projector together we will layer the projected video of the students and the overhead projections of their compositions to make a composite image of the two.

  • Gain confidence through the practice of public      speaking and competition
  • Cultivate empathy and global dialogue by showing      openness to analyzing multiple sides of an issue at stake

The ALCNY methods

Our high school programs are high level, unique compliment to their school curriculum and will better prepare them for the rigor of university.

ALCNY classes are founded on principles used in the American educational system and are constructed in collaboration with parents, teachers, school directors, incorporating ESL (English as Second Language) methods.

Our aim is to prepare students to reach the highest level of fluency in English as well as fluency with the equally important soft skills. They will gain the ability to communicate easily, assertively and to succeed in an English speaking environment.

We enrich your child’s regular studies with original programs, taught in a energetic New York style. Our courses are rigorous, our professors are dynamic. A great combination!

For highschoolers we offer interactive and fun classes of three hours a week with a maximum of 12 students. Your child will learn to express themselves in group activities and lively discussions.
Choose from one of the programs below that best match your child’s interests. The seminars are structured in a progressive manner and each trimester content is updated so that a child can continue on a chosen track if they like, or experiment with different subjects throughout the year.
