The Reporter's Club is a structured, trimester-based afterschool program designed for kids aged 6-9, focusing on journalism across various media platforms like radio, newspapers, magazines, and TV, with an added emphasis on creative writing. In the first trimester, students explore different media forms, each paired with creative writing exercises that enhance their expressive skills. For instance, while learning about newspapers, they might craft vivid descriptions, or write imaginative scripts for radio. The second trimester sharpens their reporting and multimedia skills, integrating story crafting with technical training. Students conduct interviews, develop engaging narratives, and learn to enhance their stories with multimedia elements like photos and videos. The final trimester is dedicated to project implementation, where students apply their journalistic and creative writing skills to produce comprehensive media projects. They focus on in-depth pieces that include character development and narrative arcs, tailored to their chosen media. The program culminates with presentations that refine their narrative delivery, emphasizing storytelling techniques. This approach ensures students not only grasp the mechanics of journalism but also learn to infuse their stories with creativity, preparing them to produce engaging, well-rounded media content that resonates across platforms.
The workshop explores the world of Japanese manga through digital creation. Students learn to draw characters, design scenes, and build visual narratives using tablets and digital tools. They develop creativity, attention to detail, and an understanding of the visual language of manga, while gaining technical skills in digital illustration.
